Most senior managers and leaders of big corporations now regularly make use of coaching to ensure they get the best from themselves, especially when under pressure.
Pressure? I can think of no more acutely pressurised environment for a leader than during service! The perfect metaphor for me is that it is as though when the doors open for service, the lid goes on the pressure cooker and the heat gets turned up. The pressure can build and build until close - and then there is welcome relief (until the next service).
Whether you take that external pressure and turn it into 'stress' or into 'performance arousal' (to keep you focused and on top of your game) is something I often work on with clients.
Leadership coaching and management coaching can make all the difference, even if you are already a leader and manager, whether of a small front of house team or a larger organisation. Perhaps you have been on a leadership development programme or a management training program. The question is, are you the kind of leader or manager you wish to be? The kind your people need you to be? Leadership training teaches you what to do. Leadership coaching will help you do it.
Either way, a good next step would be to get some feedback from others and there are various ways we could do this.
Just what we focus on to develop your style will depend on both you and the feedback but there are some typical goals that often come up in leadership or management coaching.
Leadership and management have been researched and written about so often that you will find very little theory here. Leadership coaching will help you develop your own style; one that you are comfortable with and that gets the results you want. While it can be successfully argued that leadership and management are different skills, they do go hand-in-hand when trying to successfully run a business. Leadership coaching covers these skillsets and others. Coaching can help you get the most out of you & your employees.
